Holding the telephone receiver, he spoke hurriedly.
The Devils outside an I’ve just a minute to say I’m sorry for all the bad I’ve done in my life.
For all the people I’ve hurt with my words an my actions.
If it’s any consolation for you.
I’m going to be torn to shreds and most likely eaten.
The keys are hidden in the back yard under a rock….you know the one I mean.
I hope what I’ve left for you will be enough.
I love you and I shall miss you.
If I’m able to? I’ll be watching, will try to guide you and keep evil away.
And if I’m not?
May god have mercy on your soul.
It’s too late for me. the devils found me.
A hairy arm bursts through the wooden bathroom door, extending its claws.
The door collapses from the force. Evil rushes in.
Glass breaking and loud screaming is heard on the line. Then it goes dead.
The night of my first full moon I remember…..Overwhelming Fear, tried to write down what I felt, saw, anything.
What was happening to me. I couldn’t stop, slow it, It exploded in full fury and hang on psychosis.
Out of Control, I was hell bent on madness, ready to inflict chaos.
My skin began to itch, hyper aware of my surroundings.
Looking out the window at the full moon. I saw a face, smiling at me, eventually it began to talk.
I couldn’t hear what it was saying of course. the moon was a long way away.
I know this might sound nuts. The truth of it is, I know what I saw that night.
What I haven’t shared about that night is there was a face in the moon.
I thought it was My Brother, Then Dad, Then Jackie Gleason?
I went back a couple of minutes later for another look. The face in the moon was still there, only now it looked like James Caan.
He wasn’t talking, just staring off into the distance, searching for something. He had this wild look in his eye, crazy bastard.
Eventually a cloud hid the moon from view. This disappointed me. I liked his films, you know?
My notes weren’t very good. On the crumpled torn pages found lying on the floor? nothing but malarkey.
In the morning I woke to a room in shambles. Furniture smashed, Kitchen demolished, Record Collection annihilated.
Vague recollections of the prior evening were sparse. bits and pieces.
Though I know what I saw, see? On the floor at my feet, A bloody foot wearing a shoe.
Where was the rest of him? or her?
There would be no turning back now. Word had begun to spread.
Dey call me Woofman.
Our story didn’t begin here. it began at da beginning ya kook. back in da 80’s in Bloody Old England.
Goobersville, England that is, Swimming pools….Movie stars…..it was 1985.
Noa Makoa Proud Hawaiian resident, served in the army for five years, last two stationed at Dangsforth England, at a base protecting ordinance I certainly hope we never have to use. his career was spent at bases throughout Europe.
Two weeks before he was ready to begin civilian life.
While on foot out on patrol of the perimeter fence, Lance Corporal Makoa reported hearing noises coming from the tree line.
Something shadowy was moving in there. you could see puffs of smoke, hear rustling of the ground in front of him. without warning something burst forward through the trees running at him with arms above its head, dis ting was lighting fast and on him, knocking him to the ground.
As he rolled over and started to get up, it jumped on his back biting him through his jacket on the shoulder. piercing pain shot through his shoulders.
Letting out a scream, Noa reached for his sidearm. scrambling to regain his footing he looked up an and saw the trees moving where someone had just run into the forest. whatever it was? had vanished.
Grabbing his mic, out of breath, shouted into it.
Base 187 repeat 187. Damgumit thing bit me, I’m bleeding. Bad…it’s a gusher.
I’m off east access road. backside of the base. Whatever attacked me is moving down the ridge near the fencing.
Damgumit! Thing bit me.
From the receiver he heard the voice of his commander of the evening’s watch. “What was it Makoa?”
I don’t know Sir. It was Big and Hairy, Took a Chunk Outta My Shoulder. OH Shit! Need a Medic, Losing Some blood Here.
“Hang on Lance Corporal we’re coming!”
Out my front window. Mauna Kea was peeking through da morning mist. It’s early. Too early for all da commotion outside.
I saw police cars, an ambulance, and what looked like a body under a bloody sheet. Its legs stuck out from underneath.
One leg appears to be missing a foot.
Soaked from perspiration, I wiped my brow with my sleeve, didn’t help much.
Several of my neighbors were speaking wit the police, giving statements for da nightly news. No doubt about it.
Two doors down, Neighbor Geri Ono was attacked late last night. She survived. told a horrifying story of something that’s not supposed to be real.
Danny Aki Ono heard screams from across da way. you hear a scream, you run away or run to it.
Danny? He run to it. won’t ever forget what he peeped.
Looking into da back window he saw his Aunty Geri being dragged across da floor by someting big. someting bad.
Da Woofman. Nightmare come to life, Evil Brah, Ain’t no lie.
Aunty kicked hard, gave it a Crushing Nut Whiplash
Followed by a Thronk in the Groinal.
She mean business Ya?
Da Woofman limped out da door and off into da trees wit a serious Mancramp..
Couldn’t do no howling’ so it turned to yodeling.
Aunty went to da emergency room with cuts and scratches all over her body. by miracle it wasn’t able to bite her.
She fought him off with a frying pan and pure determination.
Slamming da door, hiding in the kitchen holding her frying pan, just in case Da Woofman came back.
Aunty had met the beast, an lived to tell da tale. Smart peoples survive dat? Keep away from tings that bite.
Now everyone on the island was talking about what’s happening in Waikoloa.
Peoples in Hilo and Kona, Up in Waimea. it was coming from all over bout a big menacing dog walking around on two feet.
Making a last ditch attempt to ignore what was happening,
Noa adjusted best he could, harboring a secret he could never tell a soul.
If he did? his life would be over, if it wasn’t already?
He was determined to live and find out what was wrong with him. Could he be cured?
The army had immediately granted him honorable discharge, due to the severity of his injuries.
His injuries healed completely and at an alarming rate. He didn’t question it. for he was grateful for the relief it brought.
Though it would be short-lived.
Back home, he’d snagged a job working with the highway department during the day.
On the weekends, he delivered pizza for some extra money at Puka’s Pizza.
Avoiding work on a full moon, Noa was able to dodge the nights of hairyphobia.
But not the Dread that accompanies it.
On his second full moon? The Night of The Full Buck Moon.
Trade Winds were fairly calm. pleasant. You could hear the surf pounding da shoreline.
Noa closed and secured all the storm shutters outside, stepping inside his front door. He locked it. Lastly, he closed his blinds.
Exhaling. Sweat poured down his face. Absolutely terrified, unable to stand still, pacing his living room floor back n’ forth.
God damn ants in his pants.
On the floor was a long, heavy-weighted metal chain stretching across the tiles of his kitchen.
Chaining himself to the plumbing under the kitchen sink by handcuffs.
Unsure if this was going to work, he had to try something, Last full moon? Bad ugliness.
He took his sleeve and wiped his face. staring into the mirror at his reflection. It’s begun, again.
Noa was just along for the ride, hoping to keep it on the road, not harm anyone tonight.
It didn’t work. Waking the next morning in his bed a bloody mess, his pillow was completely soaked.
His head was pounding, it was almost impossible to focus and grasp the predicament he found himself in.
Looking around the room, there was a chair stuck in the wall, all four legs impaled directly above his head.
Staring at the chair. he reached up to scratch his head to only have a fingernail fall out of it onto the floor.
Jumping back, he held a hand to his mouth horrified. The fingernail wasn’t his.
He needed to shower off all the carnage, clean his place immediately and get a plumber. Try to piece last night together.
Turning on his radio, Noa listened to the local reports while he made coffee.
Three peoples die ya, Residents report someting horrifying loose.
One Report was of a large wolf like creature that had attacked a small group of locals on da beach.
Ripped them all apart, limb by limb, they found bite marks, scratchy scratch marks all over what was left.
The lone eyewitness has already moved off island to da mainland. wants no more from paradise.
During questioning, he went bug nuts cray-cray. swore it ate their food, drank their wine. Ever since? Pure lolo.
Claiming he saw the creature shilloutted in the moonlight standing on two feet, it tilted its head upward letting out a blood curdling howl, before running off.
The night of his 3rd full moon.
Roughly seven hours ago, things went sideways in which there is no turning back.
These were his last days on Da Island.
Outside his home, a kitchen sink lay in his front yard.
Twenty yards away on the driveway, a motionless body, its left arm detached, lying roughly 50 feet away.
Last Night da wrong car mistakenly pulled into da wrong driveway.
Not dat it didn’t mean to, mind you?
No, The two men inside weren’t here with any ill intent. there were here to see a friend, a co-worker.
The body on the ground was driving Sammy D Nooeekka Maw 21,
His passenger riding shotgun was Timmy Nims 19, most of him was found inside the car.
Newspapers and Television were reporting the deceased were Residents of Waimea.
Not no more, but they use to be.
Another Full Moon at the house of bad craziness.
Sammy an Timmy worked with Noa at Puka’s Pizza.
Having been worried about why their friend and co-worker hadn’t shown up for work tonight.
They would make that last minute fatal call on the way home. Deciding to drop in to make sure he was doing ok.
As they’d soon find out? he wasn’t doing ok this evening, As a matter of fact? He was the opposite of that.
What happened to the two young men was ghastly, grisly and grotesque.
Not the way anyone would choose to go. But went they did. At the hands of someone they looked up to. A friend.
Gotta be hard to come to grips with? Ya know, You sent them to their death. Your recklessness ended them.
I mean we all gotta go sometime, everybody kicks da bucket, but fuuuu c’mon brah.
Noa realized at this moment, he would have to leave The Big Island. Easier to hideout on Da Mainland.
Mere days before police closed in on his home, he had boarded a one-way flight to San Francisco.
From there, it was anybody’s guess where he’d go. Maybe good idea to just keep moving.
The best quote in all this mess, came courtesy of Geri Ono of Waikoloa.
Tussling wit da woof felt like being caught in a blender full of something trying to eat choo.
One of the most Grisly Hair Raising Hideous chain of events that ever went down on da Big Island.
Dis kind of ting gonna set back tourism for years. people’s no wanna get bit while on vacation from the Mainland.
Everybody wanna talk about paradise, Nobody wanna talk about da hoober joober. about the evil.
You never would of believed it, until you saw it. right in front of you, with your own damn eyes.
Woofman could be anywhere. anyplace. maybe in your town.
Keep your eyes and ears open, Should you see or hear anything unusual?
What kind of unusual? Depends on what you believe, brah. What exactly do you believe?
Real? or Make Believe?
Want to bet your life on it? Naw, me neither.
Stay loose. Shaka Brah…..
A’ hui hou, malama pono.
Stay inside when the moon is full.
